A Warm Welcome for All: The New Front Door to Campus

The new, centrally located Welcome Center will offer a reflection of the best that Wheaton has to offer and provide an inviting entrée to all campus visitors, including prospective students and their families, alumni, parents, friends, and conference and performance attendees.

Acting as our new front door to campus, the Welcome Center will be strategically located on the northeast corner of College Avenue and Chase Street.

This building will serve as a place of hospitality for all visitors to Wheaton’s campus, as well as the new home of our Undergraduate Admissions office. A Great Hall equipped with a fireplace and comfortable seating will create a relaxed atmosphere, and exhibits chronicling Wheaton’s past, present, and future will underscore the College’s renowned history of service and accomplishment.

The materials used for construction will reflect the historic buildings on campus, including the limestone characteristic of Blanchard Hall, red brick used in the structure of Edman Chapel and the dorms. Windows and entries are similar to McManis-Evans Hall and other architectural shapes drawn from across campus.

Crystal Cartwright ’08, who serves as the Office of Admissions alumni liaison and helps African American alumni more deeply engage with the College, is excited by how this new resource will help empower her work.

“I think its important for all visitors to have access to a beautiful central space in which they can learn about all the many resources of the College, the centrality of our mission, and the rich history that undergirds our legacy,” says Crystal.

“And I think alumni enjoy coming back to campus and seeing that the buildings are being upgraded and important changes continue to be made. There is no greater gift than seeing how they are an important part of the Wheaton family and that their service and, at times, sacrifice, is a part of Wheaton’s historic legacy.”
